As you can see there is a total of only 498 $5,000 and $10,000 known to exist. There are a total of 243 $5,000 bills and 255 $10,000 bills. The New York and Chicago districts makes up over half of them. I believe that the reason that these two districts dominates the census is because of prohibition. In the 1920’s and 1930’s during the later years of Prohibition, the gangsters ruled Chicago and New York and had a lot of cash business. A lot of the $5,000 and $1,000 were put away and hidden from the feds. As the gangsters were killed off, the $5,000 and $10,000 bills were lost and then found years later.
