National Banknotes Database - The "U.S. National Bank Notes, 1864-1935" database was assembled by Franklin Noll as part of a study on National Bank note production by the Historical Resource Center of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. As such, much of the data relates to production; though issuance, redemption, and circulation figures have also been gathered in an effort to help explain variations in production. Sunnywood Toning Classification System - Doug Kurz has developed a classification system for Toned Morgans based on the spectrum produced by the thin-film interference phenomenon caused by the thickness of the silver-sulfide film (patination) on Toned Morgans. While not widely used by toned coin enthusiasts, this classification system is extremely helpful in understanding the toning progression of Rainbow Morgan dollars. It is also a useful chart to determine if your coin is artificial by not following the proper color progression.

Coinage Acts of The United States Congress - Legislative History of Gold and Silver Coins

Coinage Act of 1792 - passed by the United States Congress on April 2, 1792, established the United States Mint and regulated the coinage of the United States. The long title of the legislation is An act establishing a mint, and regulating the Coins of the United States. This act established the dollar as the unit of money in the United States, declared it to be lawful tender, and created a decimal system for U.S. currency.

Coinage Act of 1834 - In order to bring the gold price into line with the silver price, the Congress slightly revised the ratio of gold to the dollar. As silver remained unchanged, this has slightly altered the gold to silver ratio established in the Coinage Act of 1792 (15 to 1). The new ratio was approximately 16 to 1.
